ARMATURE
12g aluminum wire for the body and Japanese floral wire for the hands. Twisted, painted with Barge, and wrapped with upholstery thread. Square stock and bones attached with epoxy putty. T-nuts on hands, feet, and back. All parts made to be removed and repaired.
SILICONE
Master sculpts were made from air dry clay to crumble away. I used Plastalina to build out the mold, adding keys and pockets for leakage, then filled out each side with Ultra-Cal. Wires and square stock clicked into place to center the armature. For the cast, I clamped the mold before pouring platinum silicone through the ventilation hole at the top. Flashing was trimmed and sanded.
PROPS AND PUPPETS
AT THE OTHER END OF THIS was made in five months, start to finish. All props and puppets were made as needed over the two month animation schedule. It was certainly exciting!
I also began the build for The Other, a character who is only hinted at in the trailer. This puppet is a creature with five arms, whose eyes and mouth move interchangeably from palm to palm. For the trailer, I built a prototype arm with magnetic parts.
